Take a Seat: Annie's Favorite Dining Chairs
Now that it is Autumn, our thoughts turn to entertaining and hosting for the holidays. The right set of dining chairs can instantly transform the ambiance of a room. At Ann Lowengart Interiors, style merges with comfort, so dinner conversations linger through the evening. For a timeless gated estate in Lafayette, Annie surrounded a rustic rectangular bleached walnut table with classic T. H. Robsjohn-Gibbings styled dining chairs in oak and paper rush. The chair debuted in a scene from the 1953 hit movie How to Marry a Millionaire with Lauren Bacall and Marilyn Monroe.
Annie juxtaposed the traditional architecture of this Queen Ann Edwardian in Eureka Valley with streamlined silhouettes and organic shapes. She selected the mid-century Scandinavian-style Siren Dining Side Chair from Holly Hunt for the intimate dining room. It mixed perfectly with a modern wooden table that maximized entertainment space with its elongated oval top and crossed pedestal base. Hand-painted silk panels of fruit trees in a minimalistic Chinoiserie style interact with the hand-blown sculpted glass crystal pendants.
The owners of this shingled roofed home on the Peninsula love antiques but want to give them a fresh look. In the open planned dining room and kitchen, Annie paired a nineteenth-century English elm and fruitwood farm table from Garden Court Antiques with Wide Strap/Tight Weave Chairs from Mark Albrecht Studio. Albrecht graduated from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and worked for many years as a sculptor in France before opening his New York furniture studio. His iconic metal and woven-leather chair are perfect against the white walls and aubergine lacquer cabinetry.
